Guildpact prerelease this weekend. i did not attend. it looks like a solid set, been making some type 2 decks today to see how it goes.
deck 1: 8 putrefy deck
4 putrefy
4 mortify
4 jitte
4 birds
4 elves of deep shadow
4 hyppie
4 woodelves
2 heirarch
2 kokusho
3 arashi
2 ink eyes
2 north tree
some lands (mostly forest type dual lands)
deck 2: WWbob
4 dark confidant
3 isamaru
4 savannah lions
4 leonine skyhunter
3 kami of ancient law
2 suntail hawk
2 lantern kami
4 mortify
4 jitte
4 last gasp
2 otherworldly journy
2 cruel edict
some lands
deck 3: GRw (suggested by nathan)
4 elves
3 birds
4 kird ape
4 watchwolf
4 burningtree shaman
4 heirarch
4 jitte
4 helix
4 char
3 otherworldly journey
some lands (include 2 skargg pits thingy)
somethoughts:
GRw loses to 8 putrefy deck
8 Putrefy deck is fairly inconsistant with its explosiveness, but has lots of good sideboard stuff
WWbob is fun, agressive, but not very disruptive and doesnt have any reach. maybe needs anthem or hokori or something.
thoughts on format:
jitte is really good, i think you have to play it if you are aggro at all (ww sometimes runs suppression field, but i cant see not playing jitte when you have more creatures and yours have evasion)
UR decks get better with new set (obv) so lookout for Wildfire, URzatron, and UR LD Magnivore.
i got a few pals q'd for Honolulu so ill be helping them test, if you want to help let me know.

Jonny Magic
so i finished reading Jonny Magic and the Card Shark Kids by David Kushner. its the book about Jon Finkel, probably the best magic player ever. i would not have said that before i read the book, as i've always thought results spoke more so Kai was best, but yea Finkel owns Kai, maybe.
regardless, the book details jon's life as a fat nerd boy picked on by everybody, to being a magic pro picked on by his closest friends, to finally breaking out of his shell and becoming a blackjack card counting millionaire. needless to say, there is alot about finkel's life i didn't know. so all in all the book wasnt too bad, kinda dumb when talking about magic, but good through the other parts. seems to take a veiw about being smart and not fitting in that i don't agree with, but he sticks with it and is fairly convincing.
after reading the book, my veiw of Jon Finkel as a magic player went up alot, but my veiw of him as a human being went down alot as well.
i could talk about it more but i dont want to get preachy, which i know i can do sometimes.

Tom Ross
so was reading tml about ptq in shreveport LA this past weekend and apparently tom ross won. i didn't even know he still played, but he msgd me on AIM to confirm that he did indeed win, and had me post his winning decklist for him. its good to see old players getting back into the game, and if i recall he's pretty good. but then ive never seen him play...
we played once on modo when i believe he beat me. i was reading his profile and saw he was tom ross (i read everyone's profile) and i knew he had recently won a qualifier for Yokohama, which i also had qualified for (my one and so far only chance to play on the PT). we got to talking about whether either of us were going to attend or not, with school and money and stuff i did not end up attending (still get amateur prize tho!) not sure if he ended up going. i kept his name on my buddy lists but forgot about it until today.
thats the tom ross story. congrats tom!

PTQ High Point
so went to high point this weekend for Ravnica Sealed PTQ, i wanted to do well because i might acutally be able to go to Prague for the PT.
i get a good sealed deck with Hex, Helldozer, Veldaken Dismisser, and Ethereal Usher to transmute for these great cards. i also have Dimir Doppleganger which is amazing the more and more i play it. other things i had were 2x dark blast, infiltrator+necromatic thirst, double terrarion+3 bouncy lands, and spectral searchlight.
round 1
i draw this round with a pretty good player who doesnt really know the set that well i dont think, he plays vs alot im assuming. anyway game 1 he misses 3rd land drop forever but i get informant out and try to lock him out of lands but fail to do so and eventuall GW guildmage wins. i draw lots of lands this game i think. game 2 i board in the red package of 2 galvanic arc, cleansing beam and rain of embers like i planned for GW matchup, and they win the game fairly easily. time is called on turn 4 or so of game 3 and neither of us can win.
round 2
he is playing GBU i think i lose a game somehow, i win a game when he doesnt regen his houseguard when i hex, and im able to win from there. i hex again game3 and win easily.
round 3
this guy is pretty bad, i win game 1 with infiltrator + thirst and then informant locking him. game 2 is really long he can kill me but doesnt whcih lets me transmute for hex and take control, but i draw nothing to finish him with (deck was really lacking in win conditions) and he finallys draws a guy to kill me a turn before duskmantly would have milled him. not muhc time for game 3 so i choose to play first for the only time all day. i think i boarded in my red for galvanic arc to speed up the game, hes kinda flustered by my pace of play, i get lucky and mill his wrath with my duskmantle, then i hex him and coast to victory.
round 4
this guy is playing GWR has lots of fat, i draw Dimir Guildmage on turn 2 every game and that lets me win 2-1 despite drawing a ton of lands game 2, when i died with 7 lands in hand, 8 in play, and two more on top of my deck.
round 5
guy misses 2nd land drop game one, but then makes two more to play stinkweed imp. i attack into it and darkblast, he dredges and plays it again so i get back darkblast and do it again, he realizes this isnt going to work , eventauly he gets plague boiler but doesnt have enough mana to activate it in time. game 2 is really slow i know he is sandbagging the plague boiler all i have in play is tidewater miniion, lurking informant, and drift with strands of undeath on it (i have 2 in sideboard for UB matchups). eventaully he plays enough cards i can play dimir guildmage and make him discard plague boiler, then i play doppleganger and steal his drooling groodion for his GY ftw.
round 6
this guy had 2 vulturous zombies and 2 psychic drains (combo!). game 1 he nightmare voids me and makes me discard entrancer when i had infiltrator thirst out. i draw hex next turn anyway and win with that. game 2 he nightmare voids me twice but never takes hex, cuz it isnt really relevant. i transmute for doppleganger and end up stealing a zombie from his graveyard. he dredges back stinkweed imp and my doppleganger is huge. i attack and he blocks, so i remove a house guard from his GY to regen my doppleganger. next turn i remove the infiltrator i saced to make my doppleganger unblockable and attack for just enough to kill him. doppleganger is realy really good.
round 7

top 8 draft
first pick fangtail cuz its only good card, i ddint want to but feel better when 2nd pick another one. i ended up with 4 fangtails, 3 fury shields, and a cleansing beam and a Razia. i feel really good about playing against GW or WR cuz i have 2 rain of embers as well. i had to pass GW guildmage pack 2 for faiths fetters (the guy i pass to ends up getting passed glare in pack 3, hl)
quarterfinals RW
i win mirror because i have more fangtails, more fury shields, and a sunhome enforcer.
semifinals GBU
its a close race game 1, but i draw razia when he's at 4 and im at 6. game 2 and 3 he has infiltrators and house guards whcih i cant really deal with efficiently. i have to make an all in attack and hope he screws up, but this is top 8, he isnt that bad i guess, so i lose.
4th isnt too bad, 3 of my opponents in swiss made top 8 (rd1, rd 4, rd7). me and round 1 opponent almost made it to finals against each other, but boht lost in semi's that would have been neat.
top 8 was weird, the NC TO likes to give top 8 players opponents decklists, it helped a whole bunch, especially in quarterfinals in the mirror match.
anyway thats the story i feel better about my game now, i felt pretty bad after GP Charlotte, but getting good sealed deck helps.
